Legacy in Every
Brushstroke:
The Darkhorse Gala’s Mission
to Heal
At its heart, art is about connection—between the artist and their canvas, between the viewer and the story being told. For Debra Ferrari, the Darkhorse Series is more than a collection of paintings; it’s a tribute to courage, sacrifice, and healing.
Since 2013, Debra has poured her heart into honoring the Marine Corps’ 3/5 Darkhorse unit, whose 2010/2011 deployment to Afghanistan saw unimaginable loss—25 lives given in service and over 200 Marines wounded. Her final eight paintings, to be unveiled on January 11th, will close a chapter in her artistic journey but open countless doors for the future of those who served.
The proceeds from this series will support Darkhorse Lodge, a Tennessee retreat offering veterans a place to reconnect, rest, and heal. For Gretchen Catherwood, the founder of the Lodge and a Gold-Star Mother, the mission is deeply personal. Her son Ben was one of the 25 Marines lost, and the Lodge stands as a living testament to his legacy—a place for all combat veterans to find peace and camaraderie.
